Cricket in Pakistan was inherited from the colonial era, and after independence in 1947, the team quickly made its mark. They upset England at The Oval in 1954 and saw legends like Abdul Hafeez Kardar, Fazal Mahmood, and Hanif Mohammad rise to fame. In the 1980s, under Imran Khan, Pakistan went global, winning the 1992 World Cup. The ‘90s saw brilliant fast bowling from Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis but was marred by match-fixing scandals. Despite ups and downs, Pakistan has remained an exciting team, winning the 2009 T20 World Cup and the 2017 Champions Trophy.
