Steven Smith’s career has had many ups and downs. He started as a legspinner but became Australia’s best batter since Sir Donald Bradman. However, his career took a major hit in 2018 due to a ball-tampering scandal, which led to him losing the captaincy and being banned for a year.
Smith’s comeback was remarkable. In the 2019 Ashes, he scored 774 runs, erasing memories of his tearful return from South Africa. After serving his leadership ban, Smith became Pat Cummins‘ vice-captain in 2021 and even led the team briefly when Cummins was sidelined by Covid.
