The England cricket team’s history dates back to 1739, with the first Test match played in 1877 against Australia. England’s first home Test came in 1880, where WG Grace starred in a win. In 1882, a legendary rivalry began with Australia after a narrow loss led to the symbolic “Ashes” urn. England pioneered formats like the one-day international in 1971 and T20 cricket in 2003. After several World Cup near misses, England won the ODI World Cup in 2019 and secured the T20 World Cup in 2022, becoming the first team to hold both titles simultaneously.
